READ: Mark 9:43-48

And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

MESSAGE:

When a person is addicted to something, it means that the thing has a strong hold on that person, and it has become very difficult for that person to overcome its influence. In essence, it means that a person lacks self-control when it comes to something. Many young people are addicted to things, such as food, sleep, shopping, video games, social media, hard drugs, gambling, et cetera. Such addictions usually drain them spiritually, financially, mentally, and academically.

My dear child, I want you to know that whatever a person cannot control will eventually control the fellow’s life. Therefore, if you are battling any form of addiction, you need to get a grip on it by first identifying it and seeking help from godly counsellors – don’t remain in its ditch. Also, remember to ask for help from the Holy Spirit; He’ll gladly come to your rescue as long as you are ready to follow all His instructions. I pray that if you are under the chains of any form of addiction, the Almighty God will break such chains, in Jesus’ name.

Quiz: According to today’s devotional, what is the first step to breaking free from addiction?

ACTION POINT:

If you have addictions in your life that you want to get rid of, list them out, and ask God in prayer to help you overcome them.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Matthew 4; Genesis 9-11

HYMN 3 – Ancient Words

Holy words long preserved

For our walk in this world

They resound with God’s own heart

Oh, let the ancient words impart

Chorus:

Ancient words, ever true

Changing me and changing you

We have come with open hearts

Oh, let the ancient words impart

Words of life, words of hope

Give us strength, help us cope

In this world, where e’er we roam

Ancient words will guide us home

Holy words of our faith

Handed down to this age

Came to us through sacrifice

Oh, heed the faithful words of Christ

Holy words long preserved

For our walk in this world

They resound with God’s own heart

Oh, let the ancient words impart
